We have recently added support for multiple messages and spintax in our Comment on Video and Share Video or Playlist campaigns. Spintax is a way of making sure different messages go out each time a comment is left on a video or each time a video is shared. Using spintax, we can also support multiple messages.
As a simple example, let's say you have a Comment on Video campaign and the comment is:
Loved your video!
Now lets say you want a slightly different version of this comment to be left each time. You could change your comment to be:
{Loved|Really liked|Enjoyed} your video!
By using the {, }, and | characters to create variations, one of the following 3 comments would be left randomly each time a comment was made on a video
Loved your video!
Really liked your video!
Enjoyed your video!
By making that simple change, there are now 3 variations of your message going out. This same technique can be used to do 2 (or more) totally different messages. For example:
{Loved your video!|Great video you should make more.}
You can use a spintax similar to above to support 2 totally different comments (or more). In this case, the two possible comments that would be sent each time are:
Loved your video!
Great video you should make more.
Finally as a more advanced example, you can use nested spintax and multiple spintax variations in a single comment to create even more variations. For example:
I {really {liked|loved}|enjoyed} your {video|clip}.
The possible results of this are:
I really liked your video.
I really loved your video.
I enjoyed your video.
I really liked your clip.
I really loved your clip.
I enjoyed your clip.
So if you want to send variations of your messages, you now have a tool to do that.
If you're concerned about mistakes in your spintax, don't worry we've put some checks in place to prevent bad spintax from being sent out. If you create a message in a way that would have resulted in the {, }, or | characters being sent out we prevent that send from occurring and send ourselves an email so that we can review your spintax and fix it (if the fix is obvious) or contact you if it is not. We've also added a spintax tester (click the Test Message button) to see sample variations of your message.
Finally if you are more comfortable switching full messages, you can use the same spintax to alternate messages. An example of this would be:
{Full message number 1.|Full message number 2.}
This would alternate full messages instead of just switching individual words. The only thing to watch our for is the 5000 character limit for our messages. You can verify your message length using an online character counter such as this site http://www.charactercountonline.com/.
